Simple Origins — Handcrafted Fruit Ferments & Prebiotics
Simple Origins is a small-batch fermentation project based in Panadura, Sri Lanka.
We craft probiotic fruit ferments, natural wines, and prebiotic drinks using locally
sourced fruit and traditional fermentation techniques. Every batch is made by hand,
in small quantities, with no artificial additives or preservatives.
About Simple Origins
Founded by Dasith, Simple Origins started as a passion project rooted in the belief
that good fermentation takes time, patience, and honest ingredients. We work with
seasonal Sri Lankan fruit — pineapples, crab apples, and whatever the harvest brings —
and let natural fermentation do the rest. The result is a range of living drinks that
are as good for your gut as they are to drink.
Our ferments are rich in naturally occurring probiotics and prebiotics, supporting
digestive health without any laboratory shortcuts. We believe the best ferments come
from the best fruit, handled with care from orchard to bottle.
Our Collection
Pineapple Ferment
Our flagship prebiotic ferment made from whole Sri Lankan pineapples. Bright, tangy,
and lightly effervescent, it is fermented slowly over several weeks to develop a
complex flavour profile with natural carbonation. Rich in live cultures and prebiotic
fibre, this is our most popular product and a great introduction to the Simple Origins
range.
Crab Apple Ferment
A seasonal small-batch ferment made from hand-picked crab apples. Tart and aromatic,
with a natural sweetness that mellows as fermentation progresses. The crab apple
ferment is produced in very limited quantities each season and tends to sell out
quickly. Its high pectin content makes it particularly good for gut health.
Our Process
Source
We start with fresh, ripe, locally grown fruit sourced directly from farms around
Sri Lanka. Seasonal availability guides our range — we only make what the land is
currently offering. No imports, no concentrates, no shortcuts.
Ferment
Each batch is fermented slowly at ambient temperature using wild or naturally
cultured yeasts. We avoid adding commercial yeasts or accelerants. The slower the
fermentation, the more complex and nutritious the end result. Batches are monitored
daily and bottled only when the flavour is right.
Bottle
We bottle by hand in small runs, labelling each bottle individually. Every batch is
given a number so you always know exactly what you are drinking. No mass production,
no automation — just honest craft.
